Green Energy at Shell

Green Energy at Shell

Employed as Senior UX Researcher to build out the UX Research capabilities within the Agile Hub, an internal "Agency" within Shell.

The Task:
To Educate the different Production Teams into the benefits of User Centred Research and show them a better way than the Design it, Build it, Launch it method. Also to bring in the latest technology to streamline the feedback reporting to the various Product Owners.

The Products:
Hydrogen
Working on a Consumer Hydrogen project for teams in California, there was evidence that the existing dashboard tool was not performing well. Through remote interviews and research, I got a better understanding of how the users worked and what their day-to-day needs were. I then conducted diary studies to drill deeper into their needs and requirement. From this research, new product designs were created and tested well. At this point the project was paused as the whole H2 design department was being restructured. The findings were reported back to the team via Virtual White boards and Dovetail App, a product that I was instrumental in bring into Shell.

Certificate Trading
Green Energy generation certificate trading process. This is a new and growing part of Shell’s trading operation. There are only a few users involved, however, there wasn’t a clear, detailed end-to-end understand of what the fulfilment team did. They were based in Krakow, Poland. A colleague and I travelled there and had 3 days of intense workshops to fully map out and understand the process. This was drawn up as a flow and feedback to the team. The flow, enabled, improvements to communications and a shortening of the process. Thus increasing productivity. These improvements to the process were then taken forwards into the designs.

The Output:
Through these and other Research interactions across the Agile Hub I was able to upskill the Service Designers into quality UX Researchers and gave them the tools to report back quickly. Thus making sure that the delivery time of improvements to the developers was kept to a minimum.
